About GIFT

GIFT (Girls In Film & Television) is committed to giving girls hands-on instruction and experience in filmmaking, giving them an opportunity to tell their stories. Taught by professional women in the film and television industry, GIFT’s fun and engaging educational programs give girls the tools and knowledge to  create their own scripted video content while learning the steps and protocols of a professional film or television production. GIFT offers programs ranging from weekend workshops to week long daycamps to year-round programs culminating in working on a full-length feature film, giving girls the opportunity explore all aspects of filmmaking and the film industry.

   DID YOU KNOW…

IN THE TOP 100 FILMS OF 2017 MALE PROTAGONISTS OUTNUMBERED FEMALE PROTAGONISTS 3 to 1

MALE CHARACTERS APPEAR ON SCREEN AND SPEAK TWICE AS MUCH AS FEMALE CHARACTERS

THESE NUMBERS HAVEN’T CHANGED SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE THE END OF WORLD WAR II

"We need more diversity. We're not telling the stories of many, we're telling the stories of few. There's a problem with the storytelling, with the protagonists...it's in front of the camera, it's behind the camera...This is not how we want to be working and we need to tell the stories of all."

Jessica Chastain, Actor/Producer

Our Mission

Our mission is to give teen girls of diverse backgrounds and abilities hands-on experience and knowledge in film production through fun and engaging learning experiences ranging from workshops to taking on key roles on a real feature film.

Our Vision

GIFT will change the voice and face of media! More GIRLS behind the camera leads to more WOMEN behind the camera.  More women behind the camera leads to better representation of girls and women ON SCREEN. Our vision is a worldwide media landscape of gender parity behind the camera and on the screen with a diversity that represents the world in which we live.
